Faber Castell Gelato's.....

IMG 7941

sooooooo  the first shipment of Faber Castell Gelato's arrived at the shop 10 days ago and they are all gone - except this one set, 50's Diner.....  (the next shipment will be here on Thursday...........  don't panic!!)

i said to Kim that perhaps i should take a set home and see what the fuss is about.

well, here goes...

the colour palette i had was not my favourite - but i had to make it work.  i used American Tags for my experiment (my favourite go-to surface).

you need to cover your surface with a layer of Gesso if you want the full impact of the Gelato.  my tag that i did not cover, was a bit of a disaster - i will post the photos at a later stage.

i also used 3 different brands of Gesso - Prima's Heavy Gesso, Golden Gesso (my favourite) and DALA, a local brand.  out of these 3, the Golden gave (as always) the smoothest coverage followed by the Prima and the DALA - i think it is a tie between the Prima and DALA for second place.

i then started applying the Gelato's.  i scribbled it on the craft sheet and misted it and dipped my tag into it.  i applied it directly and blended it with my finger as well as a paint brush.  i misted it and let it run.  i created splatter.  i stamped with it.  i coloured the seam binding with it.  i painted the butterfly with it.

the only other mediums i used on this tag were Brilliance Lightening Black to stamp the butterfly and the wording - Gelato's prefer a pigment ink for stamping - and i used a Sharpie to draw the butterfly antennae and the flutterings....

i think i am a Dye ink girl..........  although i can really see the possibilities of the Gelato's (one medium for LOADS of techniques) i am not fond of the almost "oily" coating it gives the paper, making it hard for me to add stamped images.  of course this problem would be solved if i owned a Black Faber Castell PITT India Ink marker....... i have decided that i am going to invest in one!!

would i buy them all?  probably not.  i think i would like to invest in a few sets with basic colours as well as the metallics.

having said that - if you love mixed media, i think they would be a great asset.  i like mixed media, but it is not my first love as a Scrapbooker.

what have you done with your Gelato's?  would you buy them all (or have you already?)

so, as we are walking the dogs late last night, my husband says to me that he read that lots of Christians were killed again this weekend by extremists.  he complains that the situation with the extremists are really getting out of hand.  i comment that a lady phoned in to a radio station and asked if you can't just deny Christ while they are threatening your life and still be saved.  i say that it is so sad that people think they can deny Jesus and then expect Him to NOT deny them one day.  to which my husband says that i have never been persecuted or threatened by death for my faith, so how would i know what it is like?

and it made me think - he is right.  i have never been threatened with my physical life for my faith.  i am free to worship Jesus whenever and where ever i please.  it is, however,  becoming harder and harder to LIVE OUT my faith in a world that is nowadays frowning upon Biblical principles, only embracing the "soft" side of religion - the warm and fuzzy parts that make people feel good about themselves.  no one wants to hear about the hard stuff and be confronted with sin in their lives.

i did say to him that when you live our Western lives - the house, the comfortable bed, car, job, kids  - pretty much living the suburban dream, it could be really hard if you are faced with an extremist waving a machine gun in your face telling you to denounce your faith or you will be killed.

when you are living in horrible conditions, with literally nothing on earth to live for - no wordly comforts and you have met Jesus - perhaps through an Evangelist who risked his/her life to come and tell you the Good News, and you KNOW what is waiting on the other side of that machine gun or machete, it just might make you think differently about denouncing Jesus - as you really do believe God shall wipe away all tears from your eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away, once you are no longer on this earth (Revelation 21:4)
and if you have been living death, sorrow, crying and tears - why would you risk all the above promises by denying the One that made it all possible for you?

i am NOT saying for one second that ANY persecution in ANY form is good and should be tolerated.

i am NOT saying that these extreme people should NOT be brought to justice

i am NOT saying any of it is ok.

here is a link to a really informative article about perspective on persecution....  a must read.

i leave you with a prayer found in the clothes of a dead young child in a Nazi Concentration Camp, Ravensbruck...

O Lord, remember not only the men and woman of good will, but also those of ill will. But do not remember all of the suffering they have inflicted upon us: Instead remember the fruits we have borne because of this suffering, our fellowship, our loyalty to one another, our humility, our courage, our generosity, the greatness of heart that has grown from this trouble. When our persecutors come to be judged by you, let all of these fruits that we have borne be their forgiveness.

how many of us can pray that prayer today?

Be Set Apart in Truth......

Set Apart

I grew up in the Church, but I was only really born again about 7 years ago.  I firmly believe that if I had died before then, I would have gone straight to Hell.  I was NOT saved, although I "professed" to be a Christian.  I did exactly as I pleased for the first 36 years of my life. I had excuses for all my sinful behaviour - after all, I was serving a "LOVING God who will forgive ANYTHING".  Although that is true, I now know that I serve a Loving God that HATES sin - He sent His Son to DIE on a cross for my sins, so that I may live......  the trade for getting "off" is that if I "profess" to accept Jesus as my Saviour, I will become a NEW person - and I will NOT want to sin anymore and I will allow the Holy Spirit to show me where I am still falling short of who I am supposed to be in Jesus. I am a terrible sinner still and it is my fervent prayer daily that the Lord will show me where I fall short so that I may live more and more in His will and bear His image, NOT my own....

I know it is never popular to point out to fellow "Christians" when they are sinning. Most Christians don't like hearing about sin.  They only want to hear about Gods' Grace, Mercy and His Love.....  but there is another side to God - He is a Righteous and Holy God and we cannot tolerate and allow continuous and deliberate sin in our lives when we say we are BORN AGAIN Christians..... Therefore - the BIG QUESTION - do I have the right to admonish and point out sin to people who say that they are Christians (even if they don't ask it of me?)  I am NOT talking about people who are not Christians - I am not allowed to judge them, according to the Bible only God will judge them, and they don't have the same "Handbook" Christians have to show and teach them what is sin.....  But all who say they are Christians, should read the Word of God and make knowing the WILL of God the most important thing in their lives.....  IF they do not, it begs the question - where do they stand in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ?  And is the advice they are giving and getting from people who have walked a walk with God - even when what they say is NOT popular by Wordly standards, but when they speak the Truth - according to the BIBLE - the only authority any Christian should allow in his/her life?

So, to get back to the question - what does the Bible say should happen when fellow believers sin?

A Brother who Sins Matthew 18:15-17

15Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. 18Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

1 Cor 5:1-12 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

Paul is very serious here - we are not to judge people who are NOT Christians - but we should not even eat with people who say they are Christians and do the things listed above!  And what is even more important - Jesus says in Matthew that we MUST admonish people who say they are Christians!  Of course we should do it lovingly, but if they do not want to listen or change their ways or harden their hearts, one cannot not just leave the matter there......

If we really LOVE someone, we will NOT want them to go to Hell.  We will do everything we can to urge them to give their lives over to Jesus so that they may be saved......  BUT - as Jesus said to His Disciples - some towns (some people) will harden their hearts and they will NOT listen to the message you bring - and then they must shake the dust from those towns (those people) from their shoes and move onto the next town......  Parents/spouses and family members age and die trying to get their children/family members/loved ones to turn from sin and be saved.......  And some of these loved ones' hearts are so hardened that they continue to follow the World - and if you are not for God, you are against Him - and therefore you are serving the Devil.

Jesus said that if you are ashamed of Him on earth, He will be ashamed of you one day when He returns.....  We cannot just quote the "cute" and "warm and fuzzy stuff" from the Bible - we need to get down to the Truth and we need to LIVE it.................

Matthew 10:34 - 36

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

If you stand up for the Truth and hold your loved ones and fellow Christians accountable for the way they live, they will become your adversaries - but Jesus promises that He will see you through it.......Stand fast, hold onto His promises....We are promised persecution when we serve Christ - not prosperity and smooth sailing......

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

You are LOVED sooooooo much.............. So much that He will NOT leave you be the way you are....

God loves you so much that Jesus died on a Cross so that you may be made new and so that you can stand blameless in front of God one day....

Don't cheapen that love by refusing to become who God created you to be...
